Distorted d’Oro (Medaglia d’Oro), a half-sister to this year’s G1 Florida Derby winner Tappan Street, sold for $2.1-million to Spendthrift Farm at Fasig-Tipton’s November Sale. Consigned by Nicky Drion Thoroughbreds for owner Pete Williams, the four-year-old mare was sold carrying her first foal by Spendthrift sire Into Mischief; the resulting foal will therefore be a close relation to Tappan Street.
A three-time winner and stakes-placed on the track herself, Distorted d’Oro is out of the Distorted Humor mare Virginia Key, who is a sister to the G1 Del Mar Debutante S. winner Grace Adler and Pyrenees, who won last year’s G3 Pimlico Special and placed in the G1 Stephen Foster S. and G1 Jockey Club Gold Cup S.
Distorted d’Oro was purchased by Williams’s MKW Racing and Breeding at the 2023 OBS April Sale for $325,000.
Nicky Drion Thoroughbreds sold both the horses in its two-horse consignment at ‘Night of the Stars’: also on behalf of Williams, Drion sold a filly from the first crop of Annapolis out of the unraced Curlin mare Star Packer for $80,000.
