Nicky Drion Thoroughbreds brings an 11-horse draft to Keeneland’s September Yearling Sale in 2025, headed by a pair of well-related fillies in Book 2.
First through the ring for Nicky Drion Thoroughbreds will be a filly by Darley sire Nyquist, Hip 1031, a daughter of the young Medaglia d’Oro mare Cafe Belle. The filly’s 3-year-old half-sister Serendipity (Street Sense) won the G3 Selene S. at Woodbine in June, giving Hip 1031 the distinction of being the only filly by Nyquist in this sale with a graded stakes-winning sibling in 2025.
“She comes from a Darley family that’s very active at the moment,” said Drion. “Further down on the page, you have Ragtime, who was second in the [G1] Test S. The half-sister to this yearling is Serendipity, who is a Grade 3 winner at Woodbine this summer. Then Nay V Belle, who ran twice at Del Mar this summer and was second and first, and the last I heard they were going to aim for a stakes race at Santa Anita sprinting on the turf.”
Drion added, “Nyquist has already produced six Grade 1-winning fillies, including Vequist, Immersive and Tenma. Every year, Nyquist keeps producing top-class horses.”
Hip 1121 is very closely related to champion and hot young sire Good Magic; she is by his sire Curlin out of his full-sister.
“She was born and raised here on the farm,” said Drion of Hip 1121. “She’s out of a Super Saver mare who is a half to Good Magic, who has really established himself as a great sire, and possibly the replacement of Curlin. He already has three or four sons at stud, which is remarkable for his young age.”
Nicky Drion Thoroughbreds’ Book 2 fillies will show Monday, Sept. 8 through Wednesday, Sept. 10 at Barn 41 at Keeneland and sell on Thursday, Sept. 11.
